Jackson was hurt over the weekend, as he went down during a practice session on Sunday. He was quickly transported off the field by ambulance. The incident occurred approximately 68 minutes into the discussion. After Jackson started to get the better of Isaac Alarcon, his pass-blocking opponent, Jackson fell to the turf without warning and went down hard.
His teammates immediately sensed something was off, yelling for the training staff to come check on Jackson. At first he was unresponsive, with no movement on the ground, but then he began moving his hands — the body’s natural response to a trauma. A specially designed cart wheeled out to carry Jackson’s stretcher. He was carried off the field nearly seven minutes after injury first appeared in reports.
An ambulance arrived on the scene approximately 21 minutes after Jackson initially collapsed. They wasted no time getting him airlifted to Stanford Hospital for a more in-depth assessment. Coach Kyle Shanahan would later confirm some good news on that front. Even with all these worrisome signs, within hours of the trauma, Jackson was speaking and moving all four limbs.
“We were close to him so we could hear him talking and we could see everything moving,” – Kyle Shanahan
Jackson’s first three seasons were spent with the Philadelphia Eagles. Through the first four practices of the team’s training camp, he mostly stayed with the third-string defensive line. Last year he shuffled between the Eagles, Carolina Panthers and the 49ers. The latter squad then signed him to a futures contract after the end of the last campaign.
Shanahan addressed his concern over Jackson’s injury and reiterated the point about valuing every practice.
“You’re always scared when someone gets taken off on a stretcher,” – Kyle Shanahan
Deommodore Lenoir, a teammate, shared similar sentiments about the incident.
“It’s kind of hard because we all play in the same,” – Deommodore Lenoir
