Ellyse Perry Set to Join Hampshire for Summer Season

Ellyse Perry, the star Australian all-rounder, has been confirmed to join Hampshire this summer. In most people’s eyes, she will be the lynchpin of the inaugural Women’s T20 Blast. Perry, who recently took on the role of head coach for England women’s cricket, expressed her excitement about joining the Hampshire squad, where she is expected to play a pivotal role.

Perry is set to join in July to partake in six T20 Blast matches. She will feature in two One-Day Cup matches. The 34-year-old cricketer, who has cemented herself as England’s all-time leading run-scorer, expressed her excitement to embrace the new challenge.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity to come over during the summer and play with Hampshire,” Perry stated. Her anticipation is heightened by her conversations with former coach Charlotte Edwards, who shared insights about the club’s culture and success.

“I’ve heard so many great things about the county and obviously seen how successful they’ve been,” she added. This move marks a significant chapter in Perry’s career, especially following her previous role as head coach at the Southern Vipers, where she played an instrumental part in developing women’s cricket in the region.

Perry’s arrival in Hampshire comes on the heels of her recent appointment as head coach for England women’s cricket, a position she assumed after Jon Lewis was sacked in March. Perry’s commitment to not only play but coach reflects her devotion to the growth of women’s cricket.

Reflecting on the past year, Perry noted, “I think there has been lots of exciting things over the last twelve months for women’s cricket in general.” Her dual roles as a coach and player exemplify her dedication to cultivating raw talent and a thriving competitive spirit within the sport.

Perry-Fernandez can’t wait to get started with her new team! She is looking forward to meeting Hampshire’s players and bringing her experience to the squad.

“I am really fortunate to have known Lottie for a while now,” Perry remarked, underlining the importance of her relationships within the cricketing community.
