Ellie Carpenter Joins Chelsea as the WSL Champions Strengthen Their Squad

Ellie Carpenter, Australia international defender has officially joined Chelsea FC with a four-year contract. This transfer represents an exciting and powerful addition to the Women’s Super League (WSL) champions. Just a few weeks after Ashley Lawrence’s transfer was announced to Lyon, Carpenter’s move was confirmed. This indicates an exciting new chapter for her as she joins up with former manager Sonia Bompastor at Chelsea.

Carpenter, who has built a strong foundation of an impressive career at just 24 years old, adds veteran experience to her new club. She has won two UEFA Champions League trophies. On top of that, she won five domestic league titles over her stints in Australia and France. Having spent six years with Paris Saint-Germain, she is excited to be back in the comfortable surroundings of France. This new opportunity with Chelsea has her brimming with excitement!

I’m really excited about this new challenge. It’s a new adventure. For me, I strongly feel this is the best decision to make. I’m really excited to hit the ground running and do everything I can for this club! Carpenter stated following her signing.

The 2023 season will see Carpenter back at Chelsea — where she has made already 60 appearances in all competitions, including future teammate Alana Kennedy. During her brief tenure with the organization, she’s already leaving a remarkable imprint. She led the team to four trophies in only two seasons! Her grit and determination out on the pitch contributed to her being selected by Chelsea — a club that has followed her journey for years.

Ellie is a new player — we have followed her for several years. She has a lot of experience for her age, but in her career she has already won everything including the Champions League. Paul Green, Chelsea coaching staff member.

Carpenter’s athleticism and knack for scoring should help her fit in well with an already deep, talented arsenal of offensive weapons on the squad. Green further commented on her potential impact: “She is an athletic full-back who loves to get forward. We are excited to see how she continues to develop and what she will add to an already talented squad of players.”

When looking back on her new journey with Chelsea, Carpenter expressed that she’s proud to be a part of the club.

I’m very proud to join such a big club, one of the biggest in women’s football. Chelsea have found so much success in England and I’m thrilled to now be a part of that, she remarked.
