Edwards Aims to Elevate Timberwolves in Game 2 After Tough Loss

Anthony Edwards looks to be riding high as he prepares to face off against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 2. Now, the Minnesota Timberwolves are determined to rebound following a painful Game 1 setback. The Timberwolves lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder 114-88, with Edwards carrying the team but struggling to remain efficient in how he approached scoring.

In Game 1, Edwards went for just 18 points on 5-for-13 shooting, his fewest shot attempts over an 11-game playoff run. For reference, only one of his shots came from inside the paint. This points to the Thunder’s defensive schemes, taking away that area and preventing his looks. His second half production dropped to five points, illustrating how difficult it became for him to operate as the game continued.

Edwards admitted that his struggles were a product of the Thunder’s strategy. “That’s what they do. They don’t got much size down there, so they bank on us not making shots, I guess. Because every time I go to the rim it’s like four people in the paint,” he said. This approach really appeared to get under his skin – no doubt in part given how he usually scores.

Regardless of the outcome, Edwards continued to be upbeat. To which he responded, “I have never felt better! That impact is magnified when a bump in the road, such as turning his right ankle in the first half, can’t slow down his performance. He acknowledged that a change in approach was necessary going forward.
