The Philadelphia Eagles have made a significant addition to their roster by selecting quarterback Kyle McCord, who demonstrated exceptional talent during his final college season. He pulled in the 181st selection in the sixth round of the NFL Draft. The honor followed a record-setting season at Syracuse University, where he led all of FBS with 4,779 passing yards.
Over the course of his career, McCord passed for 8,555 yards, adding to his legacy as one of the most feared quarterbacks of all time. Most impressively, he threw 61 touchdown passes, displaying his knack for getting there a lot. He faced roadblocks on his journey. Even more remarkable is the fact that he threw 20 interceptions throughout his entire career, never throwing more than 12 in a season.
In 2023, McCord took his game to another level. He showed great efficiency, completing 66.2% of his passes, amassing 3,170 yards and tossing 24 touchdowns to just six interceptions. This outstanding campaign didn’t just show how he’d matured as a player, but how he separated himself from everyone else in his draft class. His tireless effort was monumental in leading the Orange to their first ever 10-win season. He then took his squad to a stunning upset over favorites Washington State in the Holiday Bowl.
Prior to arriving at Syracuse, McCord spent three years at Ohio State. While there, he laid the groundwork for what would be a successful transition to the ACC. His lone season with the Orange was an awakening. His performance not only led the FBS in passing yards but was an ACC record with his astounding performance. McCord ranked fourth in the country in passing TDs with 34.
Now, the Eagles are hoping to fully unleash McCord’s skills as they account for his play heading into the 2024 campaign. His record-setting playmaking abilities and demonstrated ability to win in clutch, high-pressure moments make him a difference-making addition to the team’s offense. The franchise is counting on McCord’s talent to enhance their aerial attack. They’re optimistic this will give them the winning edge they need to find success in the NFL.
