Eagles Elevate Kevin Patullo to Offensive Coordinator Amidst Strategic Shifts

Kevin Patullo has been named the Philadelphia Eagles' new offensive coordinator, marking a significant shift in the team's offensive leadership. The announcement was made on Wednesday, confirming Patullo's promotion from within the organization to fill the vacancy left by Brian Johnson. Patullo, who served as the Eagles' passing game coordinator and associate head coach, will now have more control over the team's offensive strategy.

Patullo's journey with the Eagles began in 2021 when he joined as the pass game coordinator under head coach Nick Sirianni. Their professional relationship, however, dates back to their tenure with the Indianapolis Colts from 2018 to 2020. During his time with the Colts, Patullo served as wide receivers coach before advancing to pass game specialist, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the team's offensive approach.

In 2023, Patullo's expertise and history with Sirianni earned him a promotion within the Eagles. His new role as offensive coordinator makes him the fifth playcaller for quarterback Jalen Hurts since Hurts entered the league in 2020. Despite the frequent changes in playcalling, Hurts has expressed confidence in Patullo's abilities.

"I have a lot of confidence in him and what he's shown," said Jalen Hurts.

Patullo's promotion comes as the Eagles address a lack of identity in their offense, which has been a factor in their struggles during the 2023 season. The strategic reshuffling saw Nick Sirianni relinquish considerable offensive control to Kellen Moore, who replaced Brian Johnson as offensive coordinator earlier this offseason. Johnson had stepped up following Shane Steichen's departure.

Despite these changes, Patullo's strong rapport with Hurts and his comprehensive understanding of Sirianni's strategies position him well for his new role. At 43 years old, Patullo brings both experience and familiarity with the team's dynamics, potentially providing the stability needed to revitalize the Eagles' offense.

"However, I've learned over the years [the offensive coordinator decision] is out of my jurisdiction," Hurts admitted, acknowledging the team's executive decisions.
