Eagles Coach Defends Hurts Amid Criticism of Super Bowl Performance

In his most recent presser, Philly Eagles coach Nick Sirianni went to batt for his quarterback Jalen Hurts. He took exception to the narrative that Hurts was along for the ride on the team’s successful thrill ride to Super Bowl LIX. Despite finishing the 2024 season with the fewest attempts and passing yards since becoming the full-time starter in 2021, Hurts demonstrated his capability when it mattered most, leading the Eagles to victory in the championship game.

During Super Bowl LIX, Hurts will further dazzle fans by becoming the first quarterback to complete 77% of his passes in a Super Bowl. He passed for three touchdowns and was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP)! This performance underscored his importance to the team, particularly as the Eagles shifted their offensive strategy mid-season after a challenging 2-2 start. They leaned more heavily on Saquon Barkley and the running game, which contributed to a remarkable 12-1 record in the latter part of the season.

In response to hearsay arguments that Hurts was “carried” by his teammates, he explained that these types of narratives are a bunch of bologna. This idea that Jalen was just along for the ride is bullshit.
