Dundee FC is set for a crucial clash against Rangers this Saturday, as they strive to maintain their Scottish Premiership status. Currently sitting 11th in the league, Dundee secured a vital 4-2 victory over city rivals Dundee United in their last match, which took them five points clear of bottom club St Johnstone. The much-anticipated match against Rangers will kick off at 5:30 pm and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
Their recent derby-winning morale boost has arguably been a long time coming. The team played very well despite having two goals taken away by VAR. Their attempts at removal were gaining them compliments from their new boss Tony Docherty. He credited the triumphs to the team being fully fit and available.
"We scored six goals, two got chopped off by VAR, but it was a terrific performance, and I think a performance that's synonymous with this group of players when everybody's fit and available." – Tony Docherty
Barry Ferguson, nursing his own problem with the Achilles, will be expected to be the key influence against Rangers. It will be Ferguson’s first time on the Dens Park touchline as permanent head coach. He’s been great in training and gets himself ready for the team to perform on the weekend.
"He's carrying a wee knock and we're managing that knock on his Achilles at the moment, but he's training with the squad now, and at the moment, he's more than available and right up for Saturday's game." – Tony Docherty
Lyall Cameron adds a significant amount of depth. The 22-year-old academy graduate is missing out on the last encounter with Rangers, but he’s eager to make an impact this time around. Cameron has already signed a pre-contract agreement to join Rangers and will be up against his future teammates on Saturday.
"So, I think everybody will see a really committed Lyall Cameron that's giving everything for Dundee Football Club, and I expect him to do that until the end of the season." – Tony Docherty
Dundee United’s manager was looking to the momentum from his team’s recent win would hopefully transfer to their upcoming match against Rangers. He flagged up the need for great standards of performance to ensure their Premiership future was not in doubt.
"It's given us a huge lift, sometimes it's more than a win," – Tony Docherty
Docherty is under no illusion as to the threat posed by Rangers, particularly with Barry Ferguson as their assistant manager now installed in their setup. With Dundee on a high with their recent form and general spirit, he is optimistic about their chances.
"It's a different Rangers now, Barry Ferguson has come in and he's got good experience in there with Billy Dodds and Neil McCann," – Tony Docherty
