Drew Lock Returns to Seattle Seahawks After Turbulent Season

Drew Lock’s return to the Seattle Seahawks comes as no surprise. It was not very long ago that Jones was the starting quarterback for the New York Giants. Lock was the backup QB for the Seahawks all summer and through the first ten games of the regular season. He was due to sign for two years with an estimated value of $5 million. His return adds a different wrinkle to the Seahawks’ quarterback room, and what it means for Sam Howell’s long-term future in Seattle remains to be seen.

Lock was the primary backup to Geno Smith before being traded to the Lions last year. He was acquired by the team in 2022 as a piece in the Russell Wilson trade from the Denver Broncos. In his first three seasons in the NFL combined, Lock has started 28 games. He put up a 59.6% completion rate with 6354 yards, 34 TDs and 28 INTs.

In Week 16, Lock was brilliant, guiding his squad to an electrifying comeback win against the Indianapolis Colts. If those defenses weren’t enough, he introduced himself in style with an electrifying five total touchdowns! It’s safe to say that his time with the Giants didn’t go as planned. Lock ended up starting five games, winning just one of those as he tossed six touchdowns against five interceptions. His season featured an abominable relief outing in December that compounded Charlotte’s troublemaking all year long.

Lock’s inconsistency in New York played a significant role in the Giants’ challenges, as he was declared the backup to Daniel Jones immediately upon signing. This lack of stability paid dividends in his overall performance and resulted in his eventual exit from the franchise.

Now back in Seattle, Lock’s role as a potential backup to Sam Darnold raises questions about Sam Howell’s place within the Seahawks organization. Howell’s future may be up in the air with Lock looking to secure his place on the roster.
