Doncic Aims for Dominance with New Training Regimen

Luka Doncic, the newly acquired star of the Los Angeles Lakers, has graced the digital cover of Men’s Health Magazine, showcasing significant changes in his physique and mindset as he prepares for the upcoming NBA season. As competitive as Doncic is at 26 years old, he’s highly dedicated to bettering his performance. He seeks to raise the level of play on his squad, aiming for unprecedented levels of supremacy in the circuit.

Doncic’s intense summer training routine is the product of years of hard work. Even during his seven-year NBA career, he’s had to deal with criticism about his weight and conditioning. This summer is a big change for him. Doncic has two years remaining on the deal he signed as a rookie, which includes a 2026-27 player option. His dedication to ongoing development is evident, as he plays his way toward a possible four-year, $222 million extension that the Lakers would be able to offer him starting August 2.

In the past, Doncic has used summers to focus on making improvements to specific areas of his game. “Every summer I try my best to work on different things,” he stated, underscoring his commitment to continual growth. For Doncic, this year wasn’t just about honing skills on the court, but taking serious steps to change his body. He had a calf injury that limited him to just 50 games, a career-low, split between the Dallas Mavericks and the Lakers. In order to recuperate, it took him a full month away from the game.

Doncic has already been back at it since June. He took on a very regimented meal plan, eliminating gluten, reducing his sugar consumption, and eating high protein—at least 250 grams a day. This great change in diet has led to profound alterations. It’s all due to the strict training schedule—that Michael Jordan/Kobe Bryant mentality. “Just visually, I would say my whole body looks better,” Doncic remarked, emphasizing the positive impact of his efforts.

Javier Barrio, Doncic’s trainer, told Spanish publication MARCA that it was clear to see the changes in Doncic’s body after this summer’s program. “I think that this summer, he sees the difference,” Barrio said. Retirement might seem like a strong word, but that transformation is indicative of Doncic’s physicality, just as much, his attitude towards the upcoming season.

Doncic, meanwhile, is teeing it up for a make-or-break year for the Lakers. His burgeoning health and fresh mental approach bodes well for his ability to drive the team to uncharted success again. As of now, the Lakers are banking on Doncic’s commitment to staying in shape and developing his skills. They are hoping to be successful in the cutthroat competition of the NBA.
