Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the prominent forward who has spent nine years at Everton, has confirmed his decision to leave the club as he seeks a “new challenge.” His contract with Everton runs out at the end of June. Beyond that, in 2025, he’ll be a free agent. This announcement arrives on the heels of a difficult season for Calvert-Lewin. He struggled with injuries himself and managed to score just three times in 26 league appearances.
Calvert-Lewin made the switch to Everton from Sheffield United in 2016. Since then, he has gone on to make 273 appearances for the club in all competitions. In his time at Everton, he found the back of the net with stunning consistency, scoring 71 goals. He won 11 caps for the England national team, scoring four times during his time on Merseyside. Last season brought plenty of adversity, crowned by a serious injury that kept him out for more than three months. Even in that limited capacity, he still produced extraordinary value on a per-play basis.
Calvert-Lewin fondly reflected on his path in a poignant farewell letter to Everton fans, saying he felt lucky to have done what he accomplished with the club. He reflected on his time at Everton, stating, “I’m deeply proud of what we’ve shared, fighting for this club when it mattered most, scoring big goals in crucial moments, wearing the shirt with commitment and pride.”
The decision to leave was not made easily. Calvert Lewin insisted it was a decision taken with family. He stated, “This choice to move on was not simply about me; it was a decision my family and I spent a long time considering together.”
Now, Calvert-Lewin is getting ready for his own next chapter. He was particularly thankful for the loyal supporters — many of them retirees — who have been with him from the beginning. He stressed the importance of their steadfast support during the good times and the bad. Whether it was the good ol’ days or when we faced our darkest hours, your dedication never wavered. Scenes like celebrating the opener at Goodison Park and hearing that trademark Toffee roar is something I’ll never forget,” Wynne said.
Calvert-Lewin was equally fair in recognising the connection that he will always have with Everton. “We believe it’s the right moment to seek a new challenge and continue growing, but that doesn’t lessen the bond I’ll always have with Everton,” he said.
