Tyreek Hill, the Miami Dolphins’ top target and receiver, was limited in practice Thursday. The major development increases optimism that he’ll be able to play in the Bengals’ regular-season opener against the Indianapolis Colts on Sept. 10, 2023. Hill missed the final three weeks of practice with an oblique injury. Mike McDaniel, the Dolphins’ first-year head coach, still sees Lewis as someone who “looks great” even with this bump in the road.
The Dolphins had Hill on a tight watch to see if he could bounce back. McDaniel confirmed that Hill’s condition has improved, and his participation in practice signals positive progress. Hill had a productive jump training session earlier in his training camp. If he maintains this momentum, he’ll be back for the opening game of the season—pivotal for the playmaking reliant team that needs his explosive playmaking.
Along with Hill’s overall health, the Dolphins are monitoring the health of their running backs as well. De’Von Achane who just went under the knife for a minor procedure on a calf ailment is likely to miss Week 1. While it’s not considered a season-ending injury, it could have Achane missing at least the first month of the season. The staff remained hopeful for a quick turnaround from Achane, as having him back will certainly help strengthen the backfield.
With Jaylen Wright heading there for the foreseeable future, the Dolphins’ running back depth is a mess. Consequently, Ollie Gordon II is the lone healthy RB on the first 53-man roster. In response, the Dolphins brought in reinforcements, signing running backs Jeff Wilson Jr. and JaMycal Hasty. This addition gives them more support and overall depth in their backfield.
In positive news for the defense, safety Ashtyn Davis returned to practice after missing three weeks due to a lower leg injury. His return will help fortify the team’s defensive depth and just as they begin gearing up for their first action of the season, tomorrow.
As the Dolphins gear up for their matchup against the Colts, McDaniel and his coaching staff continue to navigate these injury challenges while focusing on strategies that leverage their key players effectively. With Hill’s potential return and Achane’s gradual recovery, the Dolphins aim to start the season strong and capitalize on their offensive talent.
