Tyreek Hill, the five-time All-Pro wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, is in the hot seat. His estranged wife, Keeta Vaccaro, has recently leveled serious charges of domestic violence against him. Court filings in the couple’s ongoing divorce proceedings disclosed the allegations. Vaccaro filed for divorce Tuesday, April 8, one day after police were called to their home for what authorities labeled a domestic disturbance between the couple.
Vaccaro’s allegations include eight separate incidents of domestic violence, raising serious concerns regarding Hill’s conduct. As of Thursday morning, it is still unclear if law enforcement is investigating these claims. Hill has vehemently denied the allegations. His attorney argues they’re just being used in a “shakedown” scheme to produce bad press.
ESPN has left multiple messages for Tyreek Hill’s attorney but have received no response. When the allegations came out, Hill announced his intention to fight the criticism tooth and nail. He promised to honor his work duties as a pro with the Dolphins.
Though this appears largely a failure from the Dolphins organization, it is heartening to hear their intended proactive children act with The NFL on the allegations. The Dolphins aren’t rushing it—head coach Mike McDaniel said the organization is trying to let the process come to them.
“It is our usual policy of the league not to comment on ongoing issues,” said NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy. He further reiterated that the league will be watching the situation very carefully as it unfolds.
TMZ got their hands on the documents that showed the allegations. This bombshell unleashed a tidal wave of media coverage focused on both Hill and Vaccaro. Hill has not been criminally charged for the allegations. Still, with the seriousness of these claims, it has led to some scrambling as to his future—both with the team and potentially in the league overall.
