Dolphins’ Star Linebacker Restructures Deal Amid Injury Comeback

Miami Dolphins linebacker, whose career boasts 39.5 sacks over seven seasons, has agreed to a revised contract as he prepares for a comeback after a significant knee injury. The two-time Pro Bowl selection, who joined the Dolphins midway through the 2022 season, secured a five-year, $110 million extension with the team. Despite being sidelined throughout 2024 due to injury, he is expected to make a triumphant return.

In 2023, the linebacker suffered a severe injury, tearing the ACL, meniscus, and patellar tendon in his right knee. However, optimism surrounds his recovery, with expectations of full rehabilitation. At 28 years old, he is set to participate in Miami's offseason program, determined to regain his top-tier status among pass rushers.

The revised deal follows a previous contract structure where his base salary for 2024 was $19.45 million, while his cap hit in 2025 was projected at $28.6 million. NFL Network first reported the news of his restructured deal, which aims to accommodate his recovery timeline and future contributions to the team.

The linebacker is recognized for his exceptional skills on the field. Since 2022, he has been ranked in the top 10 among pass rushers in both pressure rate and pass rush win rate. His prowess as a pass-rushing linebacker makes him an integral part of the Dolphins' defensive strategy.

Looking ahead to the next season, he is anticipated to form a formidable pass-rushing trio with Chop Robinson and Jaelan Phillips. This trio is expected to enhance Miami's defensive capabilities significantly, provided he remains healthy.
