Dolphins Face Potential Season-Ending Injury to Star Receiver Tyreek Hill

During a pivotal play in the Miami Dolphins’ 27-21 win over the New York Jets, All-Pro receiver Tyreek Hill was given a ride off the field on a stretcher. This most recent incident lured fears that he could have potentially dislocated his left knee. Hill scored on a 10-yard pass from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, converting a third down to keep a drive alive early in the third quarter. Sadly, he suffered a catastrophic injury on the play.

The Dolphins were understandably thrilled to celebrate their historic victory. Now, they face the prospect of losing Hill for the entire season. If indeed doctors find a dislocated knee diagnosis, it will be the first truly devastating news for Miami. It’s clear that Hill is the straw that stirs their offensive drink. Upon entering the NFL in 2017, the 31-year-old pass catcher has quickly developed into one of the league’s most productive players. In that span, his 11,363 receiving yards are unsurprisingly the highest total for any player in that time span.

Prior to his injury, Hill had six receptions for 67 yards and a touchdown. To put that in perspective, he came into this game as the Dolphins’ leading receiver with 198 receiving yards. His 83 TD receptions are the third-most in the NFL since 2017. His 819 total catches puts him fourth in that same period. Amazingly, Hill has only missed one game in his four years with Miami, which happened earlier this season.

Immediately after the injury occurred, Hill was taken to a hospital for additional treatment and testing. The team and its fans are holding their breath for good news on his condition. If he is indeed done for the season, his absence would further change the dynamic of the Dolphins’ receiving corps. Jaylen Waddle is expected to step up as the team’s de facto No. 1 receiver, while Malik Washington would likely take on a more significant role in Hill’s absence. Further, the Dolphins had signed Nick Westbrook-Ikhine in the offseason, building depth to their receiving options.
