Ashtyn Davis and Kader Kohou, two of the Miami Dolphins’ top cornerbacks, went down with injuries at Tuesday’s practice. This has led to growing worry over their preparedness for next season. Unfortunately, both players experienced distinct incidents calling for immediate attention from the team’s medical staff.
Davis suffered a serious left leg injury during 11-on-11 team drills. He was tended to for a few minutes before he was able to walk under his own power back to the visitors’ locker room. Shortly thereafter, he came back on crutches, with his left foot in a walking boot. Despite the severity of the situation, Coach Mike McDaniel reassured fans that Davis’ injury would not cost him the entire season. He said Davis would be evaluated more in the next few days.
In another situation, Kader Kohou had to hop off the field after suffering an injury while participating in one-on-one drills. At the time, he was walked to the locker room by a member of the medical staff, further signaling his dire state. Kohou made the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 2022. In particular, since last season he has developed into a key player as Miami’s starting nickel corner. Bad news for the Dolphins, though, as Coach McDaniel stated that after this injury, Kohou will be heading to injured reserve.
To further strengthen the cornerback depth chart in Kohou’s absence, veteran Mike Hilton was signed just days after Kohou’s injury. Like many in the league, McDaniel had concerns about non-contact injuries. He confessed he dreads the prediction, but he observed that the prognosis for Davis “wasn’t the worst.”
Kohou expressed optimism despite his challenging situation, saying, “This is tough but I guarantee I’m going to come back better.” His fierce commitment is emblematic of a fighter’s spirit as he gets ready to make his comeback.
Coach McDaniel acknowledged Davis’ development, noting, “I saw him ascend to a different level this offseason.” This statement underlines the specific effect Davis’ injury will have on a Raider’s defensive game plan.
