As expected, the Denver Nuggets have officially hired David Adelman to be their new head coach. They’ve taken away the interim tag he kept since taking over for Michael Malone. Having just turned 44 in June, Adelman should have plenty left in the tank. That’s eight seasons as an assistant coach with the Nuggets, ensuring he has great knowledge of the game.
After Malone’s firing Adelman was named the interim coach. He wasted no time doing so, guiding the Nuggets to a scorching 3-0 regular-season record. Under his leadership, the squad achieved an exhilarating playoff win. They took down the LA Clippers in a hard-fought seven-game series. His success in these transitional years proved his mettle and won both him and the agency a permanent position.
Throughout his tenure as an assistant, Adelman built strong relationships with Denver’s core players, which many believe contributed to the team’s recent successes. Those connections seem to have carried over nicely into his leadership of the program as interim head coach.
Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon praised Adelman’s impact on the team, stating, “He was excellent for us, and I hope that he’s here next year. Adelman earned a great level of trust and rapport with the players during his time as an assistant. He was able to build on those relationships still further in his brief tenure as head coach.
Star center Nikola Jokic seconded Gordon on their moral victories, stating that Adelman’s presence on the sidelines went a long way for the team. He got us to buy in to something, and we played our butts off,” he added.
Adelman’s appointment sends a signal that the Nuggets are serious about continuing to develop from their recent playoff successes. They hope to go even deeper in the future seasons to come. His personal history with the organization and its players puts him in the best position to lead Denver into a new chapter.
