In addition to Singleton’s injury and Nix’s transition, Courtland Sutton has secured a four-year contract extension worth $92 million, drawing praise from teammates and coaches alike. Youthful players Dre Greenlaw and Que Robinson rejoined the Broncos Friday after several days out dealing with injuries. Even as the team prepares for what could be a breakout 2023-24 season, consistency and depth are still key words coming from the Lobo coaching staff.
Injury Updates and Player Returns
When Alex Singleton went down with an injury, panic set in for fans and coaches alike. After fracturing his left thumb, many questioned whether or not the linebacker would be ready for the start of the… 2. Singleton’s resolve came back to life, as he re-joined practice only three days later.
Sean Payton, head coach of the Broncos, reiterated his belief in Singleton’s capability to lead and play through the injury.
“If we had a playoff game tomorrow, he’d have a club on and he’d be playing,” – Sean Payton on Alex Singleton.
The rapid healing of Dre Greenlaw and Que Robinson further emphasizes the depth and toughness this team has at their disposal. Both players lost most of training camp due to injury but returned to action with their teammates as they get ready for the upcoming season.
Payton remarked on Greenlaw’s condition, noting, “He felt (his leg) get tight… Different area (than offseason injury). We’ll have all the precautionary work done, but I think he’ll be all right.”
Contract Extensions and Player Development
In perhaps the biggest commitment toward the franchise rebuild so far, Courtland Sutton signed a big-money, four-year $92 million extension on Monday. The deal reflects the Broncos’ commitment to maintaining their core talent as they prepare for a competitive season. Offensive lineman Mike McGlinchey said he was happy about Sutton’s extension and understands how that fits into the Broncos’ long-term plan.
As the Broncos focus on developing their roster, rookie cornerback Jahdae Barron continues to impress coaching staff with his performance in training camp. Payton was especially impressed by Barron’s football IQ and skill level that is uncommon for a rookie.
“He’s extremely football smart, you’re seeing him down things in disguise you’d see from a veteran at the nickel position … his athleticism, his football IQ, you don’t feel a rookie.” – Sean Payton on Jahdae Barron.
>This part of the team is getting a boost from consistent camp play from Kris Abrams-Draine. His continued growth has made him an invaluable piece to what the cream of the crop calls defensive poisons.
Bo Nix’s Transition to Leadership
Bo Nix would still be better off going the NFL route, as the top Miami QB prospect recently signed a one year $6 million deal with the Dolphins. During the offseason, he’s been working with football royalty like Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, and Eli Manning. This mentorship will no doubt be key, as he transitions into major new responsibilities in Denver.
Nix wanted to assure the NFL of his internal desire to be great at the highest level.
“It’s just the internal standard I have that I want to be the best in world,” – Bo Nix.
He admitted the competitive landscape he’s walking into is determined to provide the best value-added effort possible.
“And I know there’s a lot of guys I’m competing with for that and I’m not going to stop until I give it my best shot.” – Bo Nix.
As he gets acclimated to the position, Nix is focused on continuing to improve his play. Yet simultaneously, he is hyper-conscious of the demands that come with regularly competing against powerhouses for a seat at the table.
“Now you can go out there and look a lot better than an idiot. I’m excited for Year 2, excited for this football team.” – Bo Nix.
