As a result, that Saturday night game between the Delhi Capitals and the Rajasthan Royals was all kinds of exciting. After both teams finished their innings level on 188, the Capitals secured victory in a thrilling super over. This fourth Test match at what today is called the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground was marked by brilliant individual performances from both sides. Delhi prevailed on the day and moved to the top of the table of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Delhi Capitals chased down the target pretty convincingly with 188/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Porel, last year’s Fleet’s MVP, was at the helm of the offensive charge, as the second-year Fleet player blasted a team-high 49 runs. Rajasthan Royals came very close to matching this success. They wrapped up their innings making 188 runs for the loss of four wickets, underpinned by Nitish Rana’s unbeaten knock of 51 runs.
The game remained very competitive throughout the entire game. It all finished in an incredible climax with a super over after both teams finished regulation play tied. Tristan Stubbs made his mark in the super over. He hit Sandeep Sharma’s fourth ball for six runs, winning the match for Delhi. This victory was Delhi’s fifth win in their first six matches of the season. It played a part in their continued dominance in the tournament.
Rajasthan’s bowling attack, led by Jofra Archer, did well to contain Delhi’s scoring, with Archer claiming two wickets for 32 runs. Axar Patel stood out in the Delhi bowling attack, picking up 1 for 23. Even after these efforts, Rajasthan continued to hit rock bottom this season, being on the verge of losing five out of their seven matches till now.
The highlight of the contest included a heated debate when Starc bowled a no-ball that gave Delhi four runs. This omission would turn out to be decisive in a closely fought game. Rajasthan’s greatest mistake was to not choose Nitish Rana in the potpourri of the last super over. Yet this decision sent shockwaves through the fanbase and analysts as well.
