De’Aaron Fox Secures $229 Million Extension with Spurs

In other words, this is the first year that De’Aaron Fox has truly arrived. In short, Wembanyama has signed a four-year, $229 million maximum contract extension with the San Antonio Spurs. This deal firmly establishes Fox’s importance for the Spurs moving forward. It arrives just three months after the first-time All-Star’s mid-season trade from the Sacramento Kings. Fox remains committed to the Spurs after a brutal sophomore season. Even while dealing with injuries, he still averaged 19.7 points and 6.8 assists in just 17 games.

In late March, Fox underwent surgery to repair extensive tendon damage in his left pinkie. It’s a painful reminder of the grievous injury he sustained during last year’s training camp in October. In spite of this life-changing injury, he toughed it out and played through the pain for most of the season. Fox only suited up in 62 games between the Spurs and Kings. He averaged a stellar 23.5 points, 6.3 assists, and 4.8 rebounds per game. He made headlines with a memorable 60-point performance against the Minnesota Timberwolves on November 15 during a season of brilliance.

Fox’s tenacity, hard work, and skill have turned him into one of the best players in all of hockey. Offensively, he is one of only two players to average over 20 points, five assists and one steal per game. The only other player in this tiny club is Luka Doncic. He now joins an elite group of four players who have topped 10,000 points, 3,000 assists, and 700 steals since entering the NBA in the 2017-18 season. This wonderful achievement places him among greats such as James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and Nikola Jokic.

Rich Paul, the CEO of Klutch Sports, brokered the extension. He was instrumental in guiding Fox’s trade to San Antonio earlier this year. With this new deal now in the bag, Fox is set to run the show for the Spurs alongside rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama. The two players have developed a deep connection. As it stands, they are destined to be the team’s foundation for years to come, even after only playing five games together last season.

Moving to Texas would provide Fox a big financial windfall. Plus, the state income tax all his long-time neighbors in California had faded into the sunset, so to speak. This part of his new home only lives to highlight the importance of his choice to sign with the Spurs in the first place.
