Dawid Malan, the alluring batsman who rises to the occasion, wicket after wicket, has signed for Gloucestershire. He’ll be eligible for the 2026 and 2027 T20 Blast campaigns. Malan has been at Yorkshire for six seasons before departing the club earlier this summer. He had a year remaining on his deal when he left. At 38 years old, Malan is the most experienced player in his new team’s squad. He enjoyed 13 successful years with Middlesex before moving to Yorkshire.
Malan’s cricketing resume is impressive, named the world number-one ranked T20 batter in 2020. He also became the fastest player to score 1,000 international runs, doing so in just 24 innings that year. Additionally, he has scored centuries in all three formats for England and participated in 22 Test matches, 30 one-day internationals, and 62 T20 internationals. His contributions to English cricket were further highlighted by his role in the squad that clinched the T20 World Cup in 2022.
In previous home editions, Malan’s added fury to his freakish talent with a series of signature shows. He was the leading run-scorer in the 2023 Blast season and again in 2024. He led Yorkshire as captain last season, highlighting his leadership ability in tandem with his batting excellence. He was instrumental in winning championships with The Hundred. In 2022 he was instrumental to the Trent Rockets’ success and in 2024 he powered the Oval Invincibles to triumph.
Malan was quoted on joining Gloucestershire as saying that he was excited by the club’s ambitions to be successful and win trophies.

Jon Lewis, head coach at Gloucestershire, emphasised his belief in Malan’s integration into the team.
“I know Dawid well from my time with the England men’s team and I’m confident he’ll be a great fit for our dressing room. He’s a good person, an excellent professional and someone who will be brilliant to have around the place,” – Jon Lewis
Lewis even admitted just how important Malan’s acquisition was for the club.

Gloucestershire are looking forward to the next T20 Blast seasons. Their eyes are set singularly on constructing a premier first-team roster that can compete for trophies again. With Malan’s experience and skill set, the club hopes to improve its performance and achieve its ambitions in domestic cricket.
