David Andrews, the veteran center of the New England Patriots, just dropped one helluva announcement. After ten such seasons, he is finally and officially retiring from the NFL. The 32-year-old athlete began his professional life as a 2015 undrafted free agent from the University of Georgia. Since that fortunate draft choice, he’s had an immeasurable impact on the team and league as a whole.
The journey for Andrews to get here hasn’t exactly been a smooth straight line either. He joined the Patriots as an undrafted free agent, quickly establishing himself as a reliable player on the offensive line. Over his decade-long career with the Patriots, he contributed to two Super Bowl championships, solidifying his legacy within the franchise.
Whether it was in the lockeroom or on the field, Andrews’ leadership was apparent, as he was named a captain in each of his last eight seasons. In 2024, his career came to an abrupt stop. He only managed to appear in four games after suffering a shoulder injury that ultimately required surgery. He was cut loose in March under the failed physical designation.

Looking back on his experience in the NFL, Andrews shared his love and appreciation for everything he had encountered. The one that kept coming back to me was gratitude. It was a lot to unpack as he looked back on the 26 years that he’s been fortunate enough to play this game. What did fill his mind. In another instance, he focused on the value of collaboration by reminding players, “It’s not about you, it’s about the team. My entire career, I’ve had the privilege of working with the most talented team in the world. So on this day, I’d like to take an opportunity to thank those who sacrificed first and foremost and helped me.
Andrews is originally from Johns Creek, Georgia. He’s made as much of an impression off the field with his high character and close family bonds. He is the nephew of the late NFL coach and player, Dan Reeves. His parents, Jeff and Patricia, have been rocks of support along his journey. Today, Andrews lives in Nashville with his wife Mackenzie and their two young sons, Ford and Worth.
