Davante Adams Embraces New Start with Rams and Feels Rejuvenated

For Davante Adams, he has certainly taken his NFL career in a very exhilarating new direction. He signed a two-year contract with the Los Angeles Rams after being released by the New York Jets in March. He has only one offseason under his belt in Los Angeles, but Adams already feels recharged. He told us that this chance was “just what I needed.”

The wide receiver’s trade to the Rams coincides with an interesting and pivotal time for the team. With the recent release of star receiver Cooper Kupp, Adams enters a revamped receivers room eager to contribute his experience and skill set. Last year, Adams was a gem on an otherwise disappointing Jets roster. He amassed 67 receptions for 854 yards while scoring seven touchdowns in only 11 games. He topped 1,000 receiving yards for the fifth year in a row. That lumping-in includes his recent stop with the Las Vegas Raiders prior to his trade to New York.

Adams highlighted the recruitment efforts of Rams head coach Sean McVay, who actively engaged him during the free agency process. McVay sent Adams highlight tapes of his own play, offering narration that highlighted exactly what the coach had in mind for the new addition to the offense. This personal touch struck a chord with Adams and was a key factor in his decision to become a Ram.

The culture that has been created within the Rams’ facility seems to have really resonated with Adams. He characterized the culture as a “college-type camaraderie,” doting on the way players from various position groups vibe and come together. Adams has really enjoyed getting to know McVay. Seeing his practice style and approach has further affirmed Adams’ decision that he made the right decision.

As Adams gets used to his new environment, he already had a lot of excitement speaking about what this team could be. He mentioned how the Rams have a promising young core and a quarterback that’s starting to look like a big time talent. He believes the team was “close to having a chance at the whole thing last year,” indicating his optimism for the upcoming season.

Adams’ move to the Rams represents new horizons that he believes will help jumpstart his NFL career. That’s a pretty good hit rate. He’s very bullish. Such is the plan now as he settles into his new position in Los Angeles where he hopes to have the largest impact.
