Darius Slay Weighs NFL Future After Claim by Buffalo Bills

Six-time Pro Bowler and veteran corner Darius Slay has been claimed by the Buffalo Bills on waivers. He’s chosen not to report to the team while he considers his future in the NFL. Slay’s concern started after the Pittsburgh Steelers cut him loose on Tuesday. Until then, in 10 games played this season — nine starts — he had logged just 666 total offensive snaps.

Slay, for his part, is 34 as well. 17 on the Philadelphia Eagles’ winning Super Bowl roster last year. He had a productive five-year career with the Eagles, being named a first-team, unanimous All-Pro in 2017. Over his 13-season career, Slay has logged 28 interceptions, 163 passes deflected, and 655 tackles.

On Thursday, Drew Rosenhaus, Slay’s agent, informed ESPN’s Adam Schefter about the cornerback’s decision to take time away from football. Preferences aside, Rosenhaus explained Slay’s glad the Bills, a class organization, picked him up. Slay intends to step away from football for a bit to process and make a decision within the next few days on whether or not he will continue playing.

After the Steelers and Slay mutually agreed on Wednesday to part ways, those rumors heated up. Soon after that, the Bills took advantage of the opportunity and picked him. With his impressive track record and experience, Slay could be a valuable asset for any team seeking depth in their secondary.

As Slay looks back on his career and the legacy he’s leaving, he’s pondering what comes next for him. Fans and analysts alike are speculating wildly about whether he will retire or enter another season.
