Dante Moore Declines NFL Draft, Returns to Oregon for 2026 Season

Dante Moore Declines NFL Draft, Returns to Oregon for 2026 Season

Dante Moore, the new stud QB for the Oregon Ducks, just announced some thrilling news. What if he had chosen to forfeit the 2026 NFL Draft and stay in college football for another year! Moore is just 20 years old, and his unexpected decision has left more than a few people surprised. Many had pegged him to be a top five selection in next year’s draft.

Moore’s college career has been characterized by continuous, breakneck development. In 2025, he didn’t even crack the rotation—just 20 starts to his name. This figure is well below what the quarter century of NFL quarterbacks might tell a young QB prospect to expect as an NFL threshold for success. None of this prevents Moore from having a ridiculously outstanding season. He was unstoppable, tossing for 3,565 yards and 30 touchdowns, with a staggering 71.8% completion rate. He experienced growing pains, such as 10 interceptions.

In his first full season as Oregon’s starter, the dual-threat quarterback was the key cog to get the Ducks to the inaugural CFP semifinals. His semifinal game against Liberty in the Texas final four was a coming-out party for him, as he hit 17 of 20 passes with five touchdowns. He was pulled in the third and had a miserable outing. He threw a pick-six on his first play and ended with two lost fumbles, ending the game with only a 24-of-39 completion rate.

Moore’s incredible 2025 season earn him to the top of the 2027 NFL Draft boards. By deciding to remain at Oregon, he doesn’t get that chance—and loses out on an opportunity for close to $50 million in guaranteed money. By coming back, he wants to hone his craft and become the best quarterback he can be.

“This year, I’ve had many great throws, many great plays, but at the end of the day I feel I can still learn so much more,” Moore stated when discussing his decision. He emphasized his commitment to preparation and personal growth, saying, “With this decision, mainly all my life has just been about being as most prepared as I can for any situation I go into.”

Oregon’s experienced returning roster further strengthens Moore’s case to remain. The Ducks managed to retain a few key pieces on their defensive front. More than that, they’ve got a great stable of young wideouts and tailbacks. Combined with a favorable schedule, those elements make Oregon one of the early favorites to win the national title in 2024.

Moore said he just wants to make the best decision possible for his specific situation. This one is particularly near and dear to him as a quarterback. His commitment to long-term development over short-term monetary rewards shows maturity beyond his years, but an understanding of the realities of being a professional athlete.

Now Moore is looking to the Ducks’ upcoming 2026 season as their new starting quarterback. This is his chance to hone his craft and cement his status before a toxic QB class expected to emerge in 2027. His decision is proving to be transformative and may very well chart the course for his career in college football and beyond.
