Dan Campbell Takes a Break from Coaching to Star in Applebee’s Campaign

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell just left the gridiron long enough to make headlines. He’s currently seeking roles in film and theater. Known for his infectious charisma, Campbell made his acting debut last year for Applebee’s and has now returned to film additional segments for the restaurant chain’s NFL partnership. This go-round, he collaborated with Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud on the catchy track. Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty rounded out the trio on “Team Applebee’s” with high-octane energy and an infectious smile.

Production for the film was held at one of the franchise chain Applebee’s restaurants in Howell, Michigan. Campbell’s wife Holly and daughter Piper were instrumental in pushing him to take the acting plunge. Although he was hesitant at first, he took the plunge and reported having the time of his life.

“Look, this was something I’ve been reluctant [to do] — my wife and my daughter are constantly like, ‘You have to do it, you have to do it. Do this,’” – Dan Campbell

Campbell took a critical eye to his performance, calling himself his own hardest critic. But more than that, he spoke to the amazing experience of working alongside the talented crew and professional actors that helped to make the project happen.

“Anyway, I had fun with it, the staff and crew that worked with us were unbelievable. The actors were awesome, they made it what it is. They were unbelievable,” – Dan Campbell

This partnership with Applebee’s plays into Campbell’s colorful character, a move that has been extremely successful in boosting team spirit. John Peyton, president of Applebee’s and CEO of Dine Brands, emphasized Campbell’s importance in their collaboration.

“Bringing Coach Campbell back for Year 2 of our NFL partnership was a no-brainer,” – John Peyton

As a proud parent of one son, Ethan, and two children overall, Campbell balances his commitments on and off the field. Today, as he describes navigating this one-of-a-kind, dual career, his family remains that crucial support and motivation.

According to Campbell, it was a hilarious experience, although he’s not exactly ready to watch the movie just yet.

“I don’t want to watch. I don’t want to see it,” – Dan Campbell
