Dallas Goedert Remains on Eagles Roster Amid Trade Speculation

Dallas Goedert, the 30-year-old TE for the Philadelphia Eagles, is attracting a lot of buzz this offseason. He has thus far been the most controversial figure in the trade fight. He’s on the final year of a lucrative four-year deal that averages $14 million per season. So speculation about his future with the team has only increased. His contract has a $12 million cap hit. This figure will weigh heavily into the Eagles’ roster decisions as they continue their cash-conscious approach to managing the roster this offseason.

During that time, Goedert has become one of the most important players on the Eagles’ roster. He’s made 76 starts since being selected in the second round of the 2018 draft from FCS-level South Dakota State. To date over his shortened career, Goedert has already totaled up to 349 receptions for 4,085 yards and 24 touchdowns. Notably, he led the team in both receptions and receiving yards during their Super Bowl run last postseason, underscoring his importance to the team’s offensive strategy.

Goedert had a terrific last regular season, turning in 42 receptions for 496 yards in ten games while finding the end zone twice. His injury history should definitely make you cautious. He’s missed three or more games in each of the last three seasons. This would be a factor in shaping the Eagles’ preferences for potential trade partners.

Considering all of these reasons, it was no surprise that head coach Nick Sirianni echoed Goedert’s importance to the team with his words.

“Right now, he’s on our football team.” – Nick Sirianni

Sirianni further acknowledged Goedert’s value to the franchise, expressing confidence in his abilities while recognizing the challenges inherent in NFL roster management.

“Obviously, Dallas Goedert has meant a lot to us. We’ll see how that plays out. He’s a heck of a football player, a heck of a leader. We want to be able to have back as many guys as you possibly can, but that’s not the reality of the NFL.” – Nick Sirianni

The Eagles signed tight ends Harrison Bryant and Kylen Granson to one-year contracts this offseason. At the very least, this move indicates a changing philosophy with regard to their tight end depth chart. Such a move would only add more petrol to the speculation fire about Goedert’s future with the organization.
