Dallas Cowboys Place Trevon Diggs on Injured Reserve Due to Concussion Symptoms

That’s how the Dallas Cowboys recently announced their cuts that made national news. Cornerback Trevon Diggs was put on injured reserve, forcing him to sit out a minimum of four games. Diggs is still dealing with post concussive symptoms, leaving his health and long term availability in question along with his play this season. This is the third consecutive year that will see Diggs land on injured reserve for at least a portion of the season. For such a gifted defensive player, it’s a troubling development.

Last season, Diggs missed six games with a knee injury that eventually needed surgical repair. Even Stephen Jones, the executive vice president, has been frank about the missed health opportunity. He pointed out that Diggs has been dealing with other injuries this season. During his appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Jones hinted that a spell on IR might give Diggs the time he needs to fully recover.

Head coach Mike McCarthy discussed Diggs in relation to the team’s overall strategy during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.” He shored up his case by asserting that the Cowboys are a rising football club. Even Smith recognized just how important a healthy roster is. A commentary from McCarthy perfectly summarizes the team’s hopes for the upcoming campaign, especially following the recent spate of injuries.

In addition to Diggs, safety Donovan Wilson has been ruled out with a shoulder injury. Wilson was dealt a tough hand last year, as he missed 15 games following a torn ACL. His loss is still inescapable for the Cowboys’ defense as they trudged through the second half of the current season.

The team has already done damage control upon the return of player Beebe. He just finished recovering from a broken bone in his foot. The coaching staff is optimistic another week of practice will work to Beebe’s recovery. They’re not paying him to sit, they want him ready to help win games on the field!

So has Todd Archer, NFL reporter for ESPN and the Cowboys beat writer in Dallas for decades. The injuries to key players like Diggs and Wilson pose significant challenges for the Cowboys as they strive to maintain their competitive edge in the league.
