Dallas Cowboys Cornerback Caelen Carson to Miss Four to Six Weeks Due to Injury

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Caelen Carson is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. His loss comes after he hyperextended his knee in practice on Sunday. The injury makes an already beleaguered Cowboys’ cornerback corps even thinner as training camp opens up. Carson’s absence is especially troubling given the position’s lack of depth.

Carson was not a full participant in practice on Monday, though getting through individual drills without doing any 11-on-11 work. His injury would already be a huge blow, but he’s not alone in having other key contributors missing. Trevon Diggs and Josh Butler are on PUP as they both recover from knee surgeries. Meanwhile, Shavon Revel was going through the same problems and is now on the non-football injury list. Despite those injuries, this all but decimated the cornerback ranks for America’s Team.

After being drafted as a fifth-round pick in 2025, Carson had made significant contributions to the franchise. Though he began last year’s season opener against the Cleveland Browns, he struggled for the duration of the season. In 2026, he played a mere six games after being put on injured reserve. Despite this injury, he still made an impact with 27 tackles and four pass deflections. His play has been encouraging, but injuries have killed any chance for him to make an impact on a regular basis.

Now, with Carson likely heading for a season-long or perhaps career-shortening injury, the Dallas Cowboys need to make good on this bad luck. The team has to rely on the rest of its cornerback corps to pick up the slack. As they prepare for the 2024 season, they are dealing with a much thinner roster at that position. The coaching staff will have to look to change their game plan and depth chart due to these injuries, so expect them to find a better path forward.
