Dak Prescott put on full display why nfl scouts raved about his talent and resiliency. Now 32 and in his 10th season, Prescott put his team on his shoulders in a nail-biting win. In the process he engraved his name into the franchise’s history books. His dynamic performance featured three touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown, giving him four career games with at least three passing touchdowns and at least one rushing touchdown. This colossal accomplishment allowed him to take the record. He is now all alone, snapping a tie with legendary Cowboys quarterbacks Tony Romo and Danny White for the most games with three touchdown passes and a rushing touchdown.
This Sunday’s game against the Eagles was an inflection point for the Cowboys. For one, they wanted to lock in their place early in what would be the 2025 season. Prescott’s performance was a repeat of the way he started the 2021 season. In those first four games back then, he tossed 10 touchdown passes and only two picks. Once again, this year, he has proven us right to be impressed. He had a 73% completion rate, mind you, in spite of a 9-month recovery valley following.
In that most recent meeting, Prescott finished 77.5% of his passes for 319 yards and no picks. His efficiency, his calm under pressure made him an immediate favorite among fans and commentators. Jerry Jones, the Cowboys’ owner, expressed his admiration for Prescott’s performance, stating he could not recall a better outing from the quarterback in his decade-long career.
It’s just the way that I love to work,” Prescott said when reflecting on his preparation and performance work ethic. He focused on the peace he tries to find as he gets older in the league.
“Experience is the best teacher, and whatever it is that you’re doing in life, especially in this game,” – Dak Prescott
Prescott is already winning impressive victories that extend well beyond personal stats. He recently called himself the franchise leader in completions, 2,901, passing Hall of Famer Troy Aikman. He overtook Tony Romo for the most passing yards in franchise history. Today, he owns that record for most games with 300+ passing yards, 3+ TDs, and 0 INTs. This accomplishment shows not just his talent but his regularity over a long career.
Looking back on his strong start to the season, Prescott stated that he has always been confident in himself. He said, “I already know the answers to the test.” This cockiness plays into his cool, calm, and collected demeanor as a leader on the field.
So as the Cowboys prepare for their next games, their task will be to build off Prescott’s burgeoning form. During the offseason, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer was impressed by Prescott’s state of mind, stating,
“I mean if there’s a better quarterback playing right now than Dak Prescott in the league, I’d love to see him.” – Brian Schottenheimer
With the pressure of such lofty expectations upon him, Prescott has further proven his desire to be great. It’s no secret that tireless work and a wealth of experience have been crucial to his success.
“And I’ve told you that before, it’s something that I’ve got to balance as I get older. Trying to outwork everybody but doing it the right amount of time and making sure I’m not overextending my body. And so I think there’s just … all the hard work paying off and it’s going to continue.” – Dak Prescott
