Crystal Palace Finalizes £35 Million Deal with Tottenham for Brennan Johnson

Crystal Palace has officially agreed to a £35 million fee with Tottenham Hotspur for the transfer of forward Brennan Johnson. This decision comes after a long period of negotiations between the two teams. Their aim will be to improve Palace’s attacking arsenal as they face one of the busiest ongoing seasons in recent history. Johnson’s arrival follows the summer departure of Eberechi Eze to Arsenal, leaving a gap in Palace’s frontline.

Brennan Johnson has made 20 appearances across all competitions this season, contributing significantly despite limited starts in the Premier League. In Thomas Frank, Tottenham’s new manager, he’s started just six times. Nevertheless, he’s still managed a remarkable return of 27 goals in 107 appearances for the club since his debut.

Recent Performances and Injuries

This was a massive step for Crystal Palace. They are without ace forward Ismaila Sarr, who’s taking part in this year’s Africa Cup of Nations. Johnson’s last two outings have been definitive statements about his capability to step up and replace the loss of Sarr.

In Tottenham’s latest match against Crystal Palace, Radu Dragusin made his return from a long-term injury, coming on as a substitute in the team’s narrow 1-0 victory. Frank commended Dragusin’s impressive contribution. He is optimistic that the player will be match ready for their next fixture against Brentford.

“He contributed to a very good and important win against Crystal Palace. He trained very well. I fully expect him to be available and able to play against Brentford.” – Thomas Frank

Transfer Interests and Rumors

Brennan Johnson interest not limited to Crystal Palace. Bournemouth reportedly interested in signing the forward on a permanent deal. This competition could influence the negotiations as both clubs seek to enhance their squads for the remainder of the season.

Meanwhile, Roma is actively searching for a new centre-back and has targeted two players from the Premier League: Radu Dragusin and Chelsea defender Axel Disasi. Disasi, for one, will likely be available starting next month. He’s been stuck in Chelsea’s summer ‘bomb squad,’ which mucks up the transfer pipeline for clubs hoping to land important new additions.

Looking Ahead

Crystal Palace are looking to make Johnson their latest young English talent to break into their squad. Concurrently, they have to figure out their bigger game plan going forward. The team has particularly struggled with injuries, most recently Dejan Kulusevski being out since May with a knee injury. If Kulusevski can deliver the full package of creativity and overlapping support on the right flank, that’s a crucial weapon to get back in the fold.
