Shockingly, head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders went on social media. As for their 2025 NFL draft pick, he tweeted a slew of riddles that gradually lost coherence. Over the course of two days, Carroll engaged fans and analysts alike with a variety of GIFs and references, culminating in anticipation surrounding the Raiders’ No. 6 pick.
Between April 24–25, 2025, Carroll released five unique clues on X. This move created real debate on the topic, from Raiders and NFL fans alike. The initial clue featured an image of lyrics from the OutKast debut smash hit “So Fresh, So Clean.” This catchy tune is the musical creation of the Atlanta-based rap group, OutKast. This first post ignited a fascinating trail of creative interpretive clues. With every tease, more layers of speculation were added to the presumed draft selection.
Engaging Clues Capture Attention
Carroll’s second clue was a GIF of Los Angeles rapper Snoop Dogg taking off his glasses. Much like that whimsical post, this one served to leave the fanbase on their toes, wondering how it could be related to any upcoming draft picks. The third clue ramped up the intrigue with a GIF of actor Will Smith using a magnifying glass, accompanied by the caption: “Draft clues on the way!! #”. This shrewd allusion stoked discussion among fans trying to figure out what Carroll meant by this.
As the day went on, Carroll brought out his fourth hint — a scene from Apple TV’s award-winning show “Ted Lasso.” This inclusion didn’t just capture the hearts of fans, but foreshadowed much larger ties between pop culture and the football realm. Our fifth and final clue called attention to an inspiring moment in Everyone’s Favorite Show — “Ted Lasso.” It featured Jason Sudeikis hitting a bullseye in darts at the fictional Crown and Anchor pub in Richmond-upon-Thames, London. Every piece went on to build excitement further, as fans counted down the days until the official announcement of the draft was made.
The Final Countdown
Just under a half hour before the Raiders were set to pick, Carroll did something unexpected and dropped his last GIF. It starred WWE star John Cena, and not just in all his glory. Cena’s legendary catchphrase, “The champ is here,” added a storytelling element and flair to Carroll’s content. His presence brought a dramatic dynamic to the story that was just starting to develop. To the few who had been listening closely, this last hint created a palpable sense of urgency and excitement. We saw the countdown to the draft reach its climax!
As it turned out, the Raiders chose Boise State Broncos running back Ashton Jeanty with pick six. Jeanty stole the show with his bold decision to walk the red carpet before the draft. His appearance provided the highly unusual and exciting additional interest factor to the anticipated event. Carroll’s impressive long-form series of posts left the community clamoring for more. They left a lot of room for interpretation, proving his immense gifts for fusing entertainment with sport.
