Cricket Scotland is under scrutiny following allegations of institutional racism, as it continues to face criticism for its handling of racism claims. The organization has firmly denied any accusations of failing to address such issues, asserting that it is committed to making substantial changes. These allegations come amidst a backdrop of broader reviews into racism and sexism within the sport.
In recent developments, Cricket Scotland has requested further investigations into racism allegations, particularly those brought forward by former player Majid Haq. Haq's tweet, which raised concerns about racial discrimination, was deemed "wholly improper" by Cricket Scotland. The organization reportedly viewed Haq as the problem rather than addressing the underlying issues his tweet highlighted. Legal opinions received by Cricket Scotland suggested that Haq may have been victimized for speaking out.
To address these serious concerns, Cricket Scotland has engaged two law firms and a race equality charity to independently investigate the allegations made by former players and others associated with the game. The organization is also in the process of implementing over 200 recommendations for improvement in response to both racism and sexism reviews.
Majid Haq, who has been vocal about his experiences, described Cricket Scotland's culture as "backward" and alleged that the organization is incapable of dealing with the "poison of racism."

Despite Cricket Scotland's efforts to address these issues, a 2022 review branded the organization as institutionally racist. Another independent review highlighted a toxic environment and a high degree of prejudice within Scottish cricket. Cricket Scotland maintains that it is committed to change and is actively working on implementing hundreds of recommendations aimed at improving its culture and practices. However, not all cases have led to disciplinary actions; five cases that went through a disciplinary process concluded without meeting the threshold for sanctions against any individuals.
