Craig Gordon, the veteran goalkeeper, has been handed a new one-year deal by Hearts. This agreement keeps him at Tynecastle Park until the end of the 2025-26 season. Gordon, 42, is relishing his second stint with the club. He returned again in 2020 after a career that lay the gauntlet across many clubs, leaving with pride after his stints at Sunderland and Celtic FC.
Gordon has put together a superb 46-games season with Hearts and was even re-established in the team’s number one role. Anderson in particular came up with a remarkable performance last December. That game gave him his 100th clean sheet for the club in a 2-0 win against Dundee. After this milestone, he secured four more shutouts, continuing to prove himself as one of the most valuable players for his team.
Gordon’s been an important player at Hearts and has made a difference at Tynecastle. In November, he made that impressive milestone 300 total appearances for the club. He is the record holder for most European appearances for Hearts. He scored the historic goal while playing against FC Viktoria Plzen in a Europa League qualifier.
Even though Gordon is out of contract this summer, he was not rushed into making a decision and wanted to carefully consider his options before committing for another year. He was very open about his excitement, passion and devotion to the club and their plans for reaching new heights under new ownership.
“It’s a huge honour to continue playing with this great club.” – Craig Gordon
Gordon’s passion for Hearts is evident. He reflected on his long-standing association with the club, stating, “Ever since I walked in the door of the old main stand in 1999 it’s all I have wanted to do. I feel fortunate to still have the opportunity to do that for another year.”
The goalkeeper understood that his team was evolving. He spoke of his ambition to play a part in laying the foundations for a new era, under new manager Derek McInnes. He stated, “To be part of the new era under Derek McInnes and the new management team, I’m ready to do all I can to help get this team back to where we want to be.”
Gordon’s exclusion from Steve Clarke’s latest Scotland squad was down to a minor injury. Despite this latest hurdle, he is still a key man for the Columbus Crew and Yanks’ attack. Having represented Scotland 81 times, he’s always shown that quality in big games.
As Gordon looks to this new season ahead of him, the sky is the limit, and he’s patiently looking forward. “Another season, another chance to achieve. I’m looking forward to it,” he concluded.
