Cowboys Solidify Roster with Key Signings: Turpin and Anger Ink New Deals

The Dallas Cowboys have made significant moves to bolster their roster, agreeing to terms with two key players who have made notable contributions to the team. In a strategic play, the Cowboys signed return specialist KaVontae Turpin to a three-year, $18 million deal, including $5.5 million guaranteed. Additionally, the team secured punter Bryan Anger with a two-year contract. These agreements come as part of the Cowboys' efforts to cement their special teams unit's performance.

KaVontae Turpin, 28, emerged as a pivotal player for the Cowboys since joining the team in 2022. His exceptional skills were on full display as he led the NFL in kickoff return average with 33.5 yards, marking an impressive debut in the dynamic kickoff format. Notably, Turpin achieved a 99-yard return for a touchdown against the Washington Commanders and also scored on a punt return, making him the only player last season to accomplish both feats. His performance earned him recognition as the first Cowboy to achieve punt, kickoff, and receiving touchdowns in a single season.

In addition to his returns, Turpin ran 16 times for 92 yards, demonstrating versatility on the field. His average return was the second highest since the 1970 merger, showcasing his impact on the game. Turpin's journey to the Cowboys began after securing MVP honors in the USFL while with the New Jersey Generals. Initially expected to receive a second-round tender worth $5.3 million, Turpin's new agreement solidifies his role within the team for the foreseeable future.

Meanwhile, Bryan Anger has proven to be a reliable asset for the Cowboys' special teams. Over four years with the team, Anger has averaged an impressive 49 yards per punt, establishing himself as a consistent performer. His new two-year deal ensures that his contributions will continue to support the Cowboys' efforts in maintaining field position.

In another move, the Cowboys agreed to a one-year deal with defensive end Payton Turner. The 2021 first-round pick of the New Orleans Saints has faced challenges early in his career due to injuries but showed promise last season with 2 sacks, 4 pass deflections, and 2 forced fumbles in 16 games.
