KaVontae Turpin, 28, emerged as a pivotal player for the Cowboys since joining the team in 2022. His exceptional skills were on full display as he led the NFL in kickoff return average with 33.5 yards, marking an impressive debut in the dynamic kickoff format. Notably, Turpin achieved a 99-yard return for a touchdown against the Washington Commanders and also scored on a punt return, making him the only player last season to accomplish both feats. His performance earned him recognition as the first Cowboy to achieve punt, kickoff, and receiving touchdowns in a single season.
In addition to his returns, Turpin ran 16 times for 92 yards, demonstrating versatility on the field. His average return was the second highest since the 1970 merger, showcasing his impact on the game. In another move, the Cowboys agreed to a one-year deal with defensive end Payton Turner. The 2021 first-round pick of the New Orleans Saints has faced challenges early in his career due to injuries but showed promise last season with 2 sacks, 4 pass deflections, and 2 forced fumbles in 16 games.
