The Dallas Cowboys have strengthened their coaching ranks by adding Ken Dorsey to their staff. Dorsey, who previously served as the Cleveland Browns' offensive coordinator, will assume an on-field role with the Cowboys, collaborating closely with head coach Brian Schottenheimer and offensive coordinator Klayton Adams. This move follows Dorsey's departure from the Browns last month after the team ranked 28th in total offense and 32nd in scoring.
Schottenheimer, in his first year as the Cowboys' head coach, will take charge of play-calling duties. He has a history with Steve Shimko, the Cowboys' quarterbacks coach, having worked together for two years in Seattle. Shimko himself held the position of offensive coordinator at Boston College in 2023, bringing a wealth of expertise to Dallas's coaching lineup.
In addition to Dorsey, the Cowboys have made strategic hires to enhance their offensive strategy. Junior Adams, formerly Oregon's co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach, will now oversee the Cowboys' receivers. Meanwhile, Conor Riley, Kansas State's former offensive line coach, will manage the offensive line. These appointments highlight the Cowboys' commitment to injecting fresh perspectives from collegiate coaching ranks into their NFL operations.
Dorsey assumes his new position as the Cowboys' pass-game specialist, a role that suits his extensive experience in managing offensive plays. Although he hasn't called plays full-time since his tenure as the Seattle Seahawks' offensive coordinator from 2018 to 2020, Dorsey proved instrumental during his time there. Under his guidance, quarterback Russell Wilson threw an impressive 106 touchdown passes against just 25 interceptions over three seasons.
Chase Haslett previously served as the Cowboys' pass-game specialist under former coach Mike McCarthy in 2024, setting a precedent for Dorsey's current role. As the Cowboys prepare for the upcoming season, these strategic coaching changes aim to revitalize their offensive strategies and improve overall team performance.
