On Monday night, the Washington Commanders will host the Chicago Bears. Unfortunately, they’ll have to do so without one of their key offensive weapons, wide receiver Terry McLaurin. Coach Dan Quinn has announced that McLaurin will not play in this week’s game. This will be his third consecutive absence, as he heals from a quad injury he sustained against the Las Vegas Raiders on September 21.
In late August, McLaurin signed a three-year extension. Prior to that contract, he had missed all of the Commanders’ training camp practices. Last year he really put it all together! He finished with 35 receptions for 453 yards and a touchdown in 11 games (8 starts). Perhaps even more surprisingly, he ranked second in the NFL in drawing defensive pass interference penalties with six.
This season, McLaurin has 10 receptions for 149 yards over three contests. Injuries have seriously hampered his production on-field. He leapt for the end zone, hoping to haul in a 56-yard touchdown pass. Unfortunately, this caused a quad injury as a result from all the damage he sustained after that shot to that area.
Though he’s still going through recovery, McLaurin was seen running wind sprints on a separate field at practice on Saturday. While he was certainly able to run routes at full speed, Quinn stressed that McLaurin is “just not there yet.”
“He did have a good week in the individual work, but he’s just not there yet.” – Dan Quinn
The team feels well-prepared going into Monday’s matchup. They will be without Noah Brown, another talented yet unheralded receiver, who won’t be suiting up in this game. McLaurin’s likely absence is a significant loss for the Commanders. He is rated as one of their top three pass-catchers and is an important factor in the overall scope of their offensive gameplan.
