The Indianapolis Colts will make history in 2025 as the designated home team for the NFL's inaugural regular-season game in Berlin. The game will take place at the iconic Olympic Stadium, marking a significant milestone in the league's efforts to expand American football's reach globally, especially in Germany. This game is part of the NFL's 2025 international games, further cementing the league's status as a global brand.
The Colts' Berlin appearance will be their first, adding Germany to their list of European ventures. Previously, they played in Europe twice, including a 2023 matchup against the New England Patriots in Frankfurt. The NFL has a rich history of international games, with 55 regular-season games held worldwide. Cities like London, Munich, Frankfurt, São Paulo, Mexico City, and Toronto have all hosted these games, showcasing the sport's international appeal.

The NFL's choice of Germany, particularly Berlin, as a venue aligns with its strategy to cultivate a robust fanbase across new regions. The Olympic Stadium is no stranger to American football; it hosted five American Bowl games from 1990 to 1994 and was home to the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe from 2003 to 2007. In 2022, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Seattle Seahawks made history with the NFL's first regular-season game in Germany, held in Munich.

In addition to the Berlin game, the NFL has plans for two games at London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and one in Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in 2025.
