The “We Ain’t Hard 2 Find Showcase,” hosted by Colorado coach Deion Sanders, attracted attention recently as up-and-coming talent took center stage. The competition floor was flanked by a stunning lighted sign that enhanced the entire room, as a series of moving drills brought athletes’ talents to life.
One of the most impressive performers was Will Sheppard, whose official height was 6’2 ¼” and weight 196. Sheppard had perhaps the most impressive athletic profile out of any tight end, flashing rare 4.39 and 4.40 40-yard dash times. Combine runs were 4.56 seconds and 4.54 seconds. He previously showed out in vertical and broad jumps. He impressed with a huge 40½-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-11 broad jump.
Travis Hunter, the best athlete of the showcase, just recently expanded his list of honors. He went on to win the Chuck Bednarik Award as college football’s top defensive player and the Biletnikoff Award for the best receiver. Hunter’s impressive performances earned him the Heisman Trophy, solidifying his status as one of college football’s elite players.
Regardless of his accomplishments, Hunter’s pursuit of the NFL is just getting started. While he has most recently adapted to playing offense, he hopes to utilize both skills on a professional stage. He further noted that his primary position would be determined by the team who drafts him. This kind of flexibility could have him an attractive option to multiple teams draft.
Hunter also did not participate on the field at the scouting combine, or at the Big 12 pro day. Still, he wowed NFL scouts, particularly NFL quarterbacks coaches and personnel by working out with almost every team in Indianapolis. Over Colorado’s 12 regular-season games, Hunter played a jaw-dropping 1,380 total snaps. Notably, he became the only FBS player in the last 25 years to achieve three scrimmage touchdowns on offense and an interception in the same game, further highlighting his unique capabilities.
The “We Ain’t Hard 2 Find Showcase” ended on the highest note. Will Sheppard and Travis Hunter both showed why they’ve got All-American potential to change a game! The event shuttled these athletes both figuratively and literally towards excellence. Most importantly, it provided them an opportunity to truly display their talent and create pathways to professional football opportunities down the road.
