With Kazee’s signing, the Cleveland Browns now have four veteran safeties on their current roster. This transaction is intended to improve the club’s defensive depth chart. At 31 years old, Kazee is experienced for sure. He’s made 63 career starts with the Atlanta Falcons, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Dallas Cowboys and should prove to be a solid addition for the Browns.
Kazee’s signing would be a perfect fit for the Browns. Just this last week, they took a huge hit to their safety roster. Rodney McLeod, one of the main stabilizing veterans for the last two seasons, has decided to retire. He leaves the NFL after a remarkable 13-year career. The demand for added safety depth was through the roof, spurring the Browns’ management to sign Kazee.
Kazee has proven to be a playmaker each step of his career. In 42 career games he’s amassed 363 tackles, 17 picks, and 24 PBUs. He creates turnovers like an artist! His versatility and depth, bolstering the team’s defense on third down and long stretches, turned him into an essential piece for the past few years.
Kazee’s recent career has not been free of scandal. In December 2023, he was hit with a suspension of three games without pay for the end of the regular season. He followed it up with a vicious blow to Indy Colts WR Michael Pittman Jr. This pre-season injury caused Pittman to enter concussion protocol, which led to the eventual penalty. That suspension was the result of increasingly mean-spirited violations of league protocols established to ensure the health and safety of players.
Kazee was first drafted by the Atlanta Falcons as a fifth-round selection in the 2017 NFL Draft. Prior to landing in Pittsburgh, he had stints with the Atlanta Falcons. His rich experience will be invaluable for the Browns. Now, with his player proven record on the pitch, he’ll guide them through what promises to be an explosive upcoming inaugural season.
The Browns organization is optimistic that Kazee’s presence will strengthen their secondary and provide much-needed support as they aim to enhance their overall defensive strategy for the upcoming games.
