The Chicago City Council has approved a landmark initiative known as "The 1901 Project," set to become the largest private investment in Chicago's West Side. Spearheaded by the Reinsdorf and Wirtz families, who own the United Center—home to the NBA's Bulls and NHL's Blackhawks—this ambitious project aims to revitalize over 55 acres of privately owned land surrounding the iconic arena.
This transformative endeavor will unfold over a decade, with construction occurring in multiple phases. Phase one will introduce several key developments, including a 6,000-seat theater, multilevel parking facilities featuring rooftop greenspace, and improved infrastructure with pedestrian-friendly sidewalks and bike lanes. Additionally, new hotel and retail spaces will be established to enhance the area's economic vitality.
