Drafted as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, Holmgren was set to make his mark. An untimely Lisfranc injury knocked him out for his whole rookie season. He’s produced a glorious comeback, almost singlehandedly on the team. His exemplary performance led to him being rewarded with a long-term contract extension, further proving his immense worth in this league.
After suffering a broken pelvis, which left him screaming in pain, Holmgren took months to recuperate. In addition, he spoke candidly about the frustrations and difficulties of his recovery journey. It began with a weeklong hospital stay, then three more weeks trapped in a too big hospital bed. Holmgren told the Athletic that his first month after the injury felt like “solitary confinement,” reflecting the mental effects of being forced to stop moving.
Holmgren said, “Nothing’s more detrimental to your body than not working out. He looked back on the physical and mental difficulties he went through following his recovery. He continued, “I found out the hard way that being on bed rest for six weeks watching my muscle atrophy was just horrible.
