Chelsea Triumphs in Europa Conference League Final as Sky Sports Expands Coverage

Chelsea FC celebrated a significant victory on May 28, 2025, after defeating Real Betis 4-1 in the Europa Conference League final held in Wroclaw, Poland. This victory is Chelsea’s first piece of silverware since BlueCo acquired the club. It highlights an incredible transformation for the team under new head coach Enzo Maresca. With this win, Chelsea has officially spent over £1 billion on new signings since the Todd Boehly takeover.

The captain, even though James began the game on the bench, was handed the trophy following the result. After being brought on at halftime though he certainly started to change the complexion of the match. Chelsea initially struggled in the first half but improved significantly after the break, securing a decisive victory over their Spanish opponents.

A Challenging Start for Chelsea

Chelsea’s path to victory was not straightforward. After an awful first half, the entire team looked lost. Maybe most of all, Coach Maresca thinks the players’ emotional high after a comeback win against Nottingham Forest made a difference.

It just wasn’t the right approach to the game in that first half. Maresca said it was something he’d always hoped for. This exuberance honestly scared me a little after the Nottingham Forest match, lasting for two days straight. Chelsea had an extra 48 hours of lead-time before the final. To compound the issues, Real Betis would be playing a match on the Friday before, leaving Chelsea with a distinct advantage.

Chelsea struggled initially. The crew had to turn around and sartorial regather and refocus to put their plan into action, plain but massively successful business apparel.

Reece James’ Emotional Journey

Disappointment at not starting Reece James aside, who called his exclusion from the final “devastating.” He admitted that it was the manager’s call after all.

“It’s devastating to find out you’re not starting a final,” – Reece James

Maresca moved to calm concerns over James’ fitness. He underscored how James has already appeared in more games this season than the total of the previous two seasons. He elaborated that this was to keep the player from getting worn down.

“I promise you, I would always start Reece but I’m trying to protect him. He’s played more games this season than in the last two,” – Enzo Maresca

Right from the moment James stepped onto the court, he was doing what he does best. He lifted the entire Chelsea team and he was of course central to their stunning second-half comeback.
