Chelsea Football Club is on the verge of sealing a season-long loan deal for Argentine international Facundo Buonanotte. Indeed, the 20-year-old winger has gotten everybody’s tongues wagging after his standout showings in the English Premier League. Last season, he was on loan at Leicester City, where he made a tremendous impact.
Buonanotte proved his young talent with six goals during his time with Leicester City. Through 35 appearances, he showed the mark of a difference-maker. On 10 January 2023, he signed for Brighton & Hove Albion from Rosario Central. Prior to his loan spell, he had made 50 appearances scoring five goals for the side. Now, his brilliance on the ball has reportedly piqued the interest of many clubs, including Leeds United and Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund. Borussia Dortmund went so far as to place a loan bid with an option to buy.
Brighton management has further expressed disinterest in loaning Buonanotte to any club outside of England. This unfortunate turn of events has limited the options available to the exciting young forward, even with interest still coming in from abroad including clubs like Lyon. Chelsea’s early, aggressive approach seems to have left them with a clear lead in the race for the teenage hotshot.
Buonanotte may very well be joining Chelsea soon and reuniting with multiple ex-Brighton buddies. That’s included players like Marc Cucurella, Robert Sanchez, Moises Caicedo, and Joao Pedro. These types of connections might smooth out his entry into the team as he settles into a new surroundings at Stamford Bridge.
Finally, the deal for Buonanotte’s loan is pretty obvious. Chelsea do not have an option or obligation to buy the player at the end of the season. This setup gives both clubs tactical flexibility, while ensuring that Buonanotte receives consistent — and high-level — competitive minutes in a rapidly developing league.
With Chelsea aiming to strengthen in attacking areas, signing Buonanotte would provide a good option and depth to their squad. The Blues are desperate to load their squad with exciting youth. Buonanotte is a script that fits this profile to a tee!
