Charlie Woods Secures Spot in U.S. Junior Amateur with Playoff Victory

Charlie Woods, 16-year-old son of golf legend Tiger Woods, has gone and done it again! He’s made it into the U.S. Junior Amateur for the second straight summer. This accomplishment comes on the heels of an amazing 36-hole stroke play qualifying round. A field of 264 players battled it out at Eagle Trace Golf Club.

During the qualifying round, he recorded an impressive score of 71. A bogey on his last hole left him in a three-man tie for the last qualifying position. Exhibiting his trademark ability to maintain coolness under extreme duress, Woods won the playoff, earning not just the coveted Masters invitation but validation of his victory.

The U.S. Junior Amateur will be played July 21-26. We hope you’ll come along with us to Trinity Forest in Dallas, Texas for what’s sure to be a terrific event! This exciting event is held every year to showcase the best up-and-coming young talent in golf. Only the 64 best players make it to the thrilling match play. One big difference between this year’s Junior event versus last year’s is that Charlie Woods faced an extremely difficult test in tournaments. He posted final rounds of 82 and 80, knocking him out of match play.

Eagle Trace Golf Club was the venue for the qualifying event. It’s got a tremendous legacy of important moments including the Byron Classic on the PGA Tour. This backdrop formed the basis for cutthroat competition. It motivated Woods and the other young golfers to passionately compete for their opportunity at the U.S. Junior Amateur.

Tiger Woods, who holds a distinguished record in this tournament, won the U.S. Junior Amateur three times in a row during his adolescence. And no wonder—Charlie Woods is quite literally following in his father’s footsteps. This year, he hopes to use what he learned from participating in last year’s tournament to make a deeper run in the competition.
