Charlie Woods, the 16-year-old son of golf legend Tiger Woods, has already made a notable accomplishment in his young life. He quickly won his first AJGA title at the Team TaylorMade Invitational at Streamsong Resort Black Course. This victory comes after what’s been a very rough month for Woods. He battled to qualify for both the U.S. Junior Amateur and the U.S. Open but came up just short in both attempts.
If his recent win on the AJGA circuit is any indication, Woods has a bright future ahead of him. He went out and shot an awesome final round of 6-under 66. He closed in style with eight birdies against just two bogeys. This stunning display of power and athleticism highlighted his accuracy, ability to read the course and elegant style. Woods capped off his final tournament round with four straight pars to end the day. He finished with a three-round total of 15-under 201, securing the win by three shots.
Woods competed against other excellence, such as Luke Colton, Willie Gordon, and Phillip Dunham. He prevailed against a field of 71 players that featured four challengers inside the top five in AJGA rankings. This triumph is a major watershed for Woods, his first AJGA victory in just his fifth event.
Just earlier this month, Woods had qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur but did not play well enough to advance past the opening round. He took three tries to qualify for the U.S. Open. Instead, on his second try, he shot a 3-over 75, a score unfortunately still not good enough to qualify for the big time tournament.
Even before his recent win at the AJGA, Woods had already started to put together an impressive résumé in junior golf. After fighting the good fight, he scored his first win in June 2023. He won the 14-15-year-old division at the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour’s Major Championship. After that win, he went on to win the Last Chance Regional golf tournament.
