The Boston Celtics today broke the needle with perhaps the worst possible news. Their star player, Jaylen Brown, will now miss a minimum of two games with a bone bruise and posterior impingement in his right knee. Brown has been a key cog in their surprising success this season. Unfortunately for Washington, he was recently diagnosed with a stress injury and will be reevaluated on Monday. His loss is a huge deal for the Celtics as they try to hold onto their top spot in the Eastern Conference race.
Brown, meanwhile, is putting together an outstanding year, averaging 22.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. He did not play during Tuesday’s clash against the Utah Jazz and will not be available for Friday’s meeting with the Portland Trail Blazers. Despite missing several games, he has participated in 56 of the Celtics' 69 games this season, demonstrating his importance to the team.
The Celtics are in second place in the Eastern Conference, six games behind the Cleveland Cavaliers. They are seven games up on third place New York Knicks. Brown's performance has been pivotal in ensuring the Celtics' strong standing in the conference, making his temporary absence a challenge for the team to navigate.
The Celtics have doggedly fought their way to almost a lock for the best record in the NBA. Brown’s health—and speedy recovery—are key to their success. His contributions have made him perhaps the most important piece to their season-long offensive and defensive rotations. Both the team and its fans are looking forward to his soon return after the scheduled reevaluation.
