Celtic FC manager Brendan Rodgers was remarkably discreet about speculation that he was about to be reunited with former striker Jamie Vardy. He wouldn’t be drawn into commenting on the rampant speculation. Vardy, 36, is currently a free agent after leaving Leicester City this summer after spending his entire career in England with the Foxes. He has his reportedly heart set on a winter move to Celtic. Despite the ongoing rumors, Rodgers emphasized the importance of focusing on the current squad and not singling out any individual player.
During a recent press conference, Rodgers stated, “Listen, I would not speak about any individual player.” His comments are a sign of a conservative mindset as Celtic get ready for the most important Celtic part of the season. The manager underlined the importance of team stability. Yet this stability is surprisingly fragile once players begin contemplating their future beyond the game.
Celtic captain Callum McGregor said something extremely similar when asked about possible incoming transfers. He stressed that they should not plan to sign young prospects but only players who will improve the current first squad. McGregor’s perspective aligns with Rodgers’ vision as they aim to maintain the momentum gained from last year’s successful campaign in the Champions League.
Rodgers noted that Celtic are clearly in the market to improve their squad. They’ve already added excellent new talent, including Benjamin Nygren and Jahmai Simpson-Pusey. He affirmed the need for quality additions, stating, “We need quality players and the guys that are here, the guys that have done really good work in the last 12 months, we have to trust them as well.”
Just as Celtic slate through this crucial stage of the season, Rodgers took time out daub his players’ minds to the value of reprise. “There’s so much noise, especially as it ramps up towards the end,” he said, highlighting the distractions that can arise from transfer speculation. He promised his squad that their financial future is safe, pointing out how Celtic always pays its players’ wages on time.
Even with interest in Vardy and other big inmate signings, Rogers is reportedly more concerned in seeing a positive team chemistry. He understands that players should concentrate on their performances rather than external distractions, emphasizing that “the money will be in players’ bank every month and it’ll be from Celtic.”
