Celtic Football Club have completed the signing of Kelechi Iheanacho after the striker was released by Sevilla earlier this week. The Nigerian forward, 28, had been in advanced talks to join the Scottish Premiership champions on Monday night. The club confirmed the transfer late Tuesday night at 11:06 PM, marking a significant addition to their attacking lineup.
Brendan Rodgers, now manager of Celtic, would be delighted to reunite with Iheanacho. Having successfully partnered at Leicester City before, now Rodgers was eager to work with him again. Filling in for the injured Jamie Vardy during the 2020/21 season, Iheanacho had a career year. With Rodgers’ help, he produced the most productive scoring season of his career with 12 goals in the Premier League.
With Adam Idah being sold to Swansea for £7 million, Celtic had a desperate need for attack reinforcements. Iheanacho’s arrival not only fills this void but adds a touch of experience to the whole equation, which is very much welcome. Rodgers is confident that the Nigeria international’s creativity and unrelenting work ethic will be a hit with the Celtic support.
I am confident that he will enjoy playing for Celtic and I know that our supporters are going to enjoy what he brings to the table. On top of that, he’s long been at the very height of his creative powers. This is what makes him such a brilliant signing for us. I have no doubt he’ll be a huge addition to our team,” said Rodgers.
The capture of Iheanacho, the signing of whom was finally confirmed yesterday, highlights Celtic’s ambition to ensure they stay on top of the Scottish Premiership. His athleticism and ability on the field make him a promising asset as the club aims to build on their recent successes.
Rodgers commented on Iheanacho’s talent, stating, “I know Kelechi so well and what he can bring to the team. He is such a talented player, with great ability, athleticism and work-rate.”
As Celtic gears up for another season, it’s clear that Iheanacho’s addition could be the difference in their efforts to chase down more silverware. The club is looking forward to bringing him on board and inserting him into their plans. They are intent to defend their title and fight tooth-and-nail in domestic platters and European competition.
