Celtic Strengthens Squad Ahead of Title Defence

Celtic FC is preparing for an important away fixture against Aberdeen on Sunday. The Hoops are eager to make it back-to-back titles following their dramatic last minute win over St Mirren last week. The team is putting the effort into generating some early momentum. They first meet Livingston on Saturday 27th December, as they play through a packed festive fixture schedule.

Celtic has pulled off a real coup by bringing shot-stopper Ross Doohan back on board. After his time at Aberdeen, he has signed a three-year deal. Fan favorite and proud product of the club’s youth academy, Kieran Tierney made an exciting return. He signed the five-year contract after previously agreeing to a pre-contract with Celtic.

Celtic’s manager Brendan Rodgers said he was excited by the new arrivals and said focusing on ongoing development was key. We made it clear that for me to stay at the club it was important that they continued to progress.

With the exception of Ferreira, the club has methodically fortified its roster. They’ve added teenage forward Callum Osmand, who came on a free from local rivals Fulham after making six senior appearances last campaign. Hayato Inamura and Shin Yamada have both signed four-year contracts. They recently moved over from Albirex Niigata and Kawasaki Frontale, respectively.

As Celtic prepares for their next challenges, they are determined to improve upon their performance against St Mirren, where they struck the woodwork four times.

“I think he’ll join the rest of the squad. As I said, he’s a young player, he’s had some senior games, not many with Man City, but he’s had some senior games. He’s had the trust of Pep [Guardiola] to put him in and now he comes here for a year and continues that education at a massive club.” – Brendan Rodgers

Rodgers was equally big on the idea of depth across the defensive front.

“With the number of games that we play, we need a number of centre-halves and he’s one that his profile and attributes fit how we play. He’s got good pace, he’s a good defender first and foremost, but he can also play football because at Celtic you need to be able to build the game from behind and progress the game quickly and he can do that.” – Brendan Rodgers

Celtic’s next set of fixtures will be important. They’ll come up against old foes Rangers for the first time this season at Ibrox on August 31 at 12 PM, and you can watch that one live on Sky Sports too. On a side note, this will be the only time Celtic has no Boxing Day fixtures this season.
